The Species of Lan

All my stories take place in a world called Lan where there are two sentient species: humans and lailani.

Humans:

Humans in the world are similar to those on earth, because humans came from earth. Though, it was about 200 years ago. But, the humans of Lan lost contact with earth about 50 years ago, so the technology level is unique. Lan was mostly a scientific outpost while in contact with earth, so when the contact was lost, so was all new technology. There exists both high and low technology, with all the high technology belonging to a small group of aristocrats, and low technology being used by everyone else.

Lailani:

Lailani are the native species of Lan. They can shape-shift at will between a common humanoid form and a clan specific animal form. There are six clans: Bear, Hawk, Wolf, Raven, Dolphin, and Gull. A lailani can only belong to one clan. Members of different clans occasionally intermarry, but any children will always be the same clan as the mother. Lailani-human offspring are biologically impossible.

There are millions of non-sentient species on Lan, including many common earth species as well as quite a few native Lan species. I'll try to include common earth identifiers when talking about native Lan species, ie. a werlai fish or sholai sheep.
